Now that we are home from our honeymoon we have reviewed (and reviewed and reviewed) our trip and all of the wonderful things we did on it. I'm absolutely thrilled with the insight that our travel agent had on my wants and needs for our honeymoon. Her selections for the resorts we went to were spot on and perfectly arranged. Another agent picked up beautifully while she is on maternity leave and was very attentive to my requests and needs. I was so impressed with this Costa Rica travel company, from the friendly drivers starting with pickup at the San Jose airport to our last night and pickup at San Jose to each of our tours and all the staff at our resorts...everyone was wonderful, friendly, and timely. We enjoyed the calls from the tour company that welcomed us and the emails we received. The drivers for all of the connections and drives across country were just fantastic people and we felt safe and comfortable in their vehicles. It was a big step to trust in people we didn't know and going to a place we'd never been but our experience with the tours and locations was perfection all of the way through! Thank you for making sure that they were good companies and resorts that fit my requirements and were fun, reliable and safe.
Overall Comments about Zicasso:
I searched for the best travel agencies and found great reviews on Zicasso and then was responded to by the Costa Rica tour operator about our potential honeymoon in Costa Rica. I would definitely work through Zicasso again to plan our next trip ...
Lapa Rios was a wonderful resort and lived up to my desires for a romantic getaway while being completely immersed in the Costa Rican Osa Peninsula. The people were absolutely the sweetest and bent over backwards to make us happy. We saw more animals and beautiful views there than any place else on our trip. It was definitely deserved of the "1000 Things To Do Before You Die" placement. It was spectacular. The staff is efficient and extremely friendly, the food was absolutely top notch, the guides were knowledgeable and catered to our desires to see certain animals (for me seeing a sloth!), the rooms were elegant luxury camping but no worries about animals or bugs bothering us at night.
Our guide from the nature tour was a wonderful man and we loved him. He stopped on the side of the road to find me not one but two sloths so close that I could touch them! He was a highlight of our trip and I really enjoyed meeting him and his incredible service.
Nayara was our absolute favorite resort. It was so elegant, beautifully decorated and was lushly planted with gorgeous exotic flowers and plants that attracted all of the birds we loved to watch off of our deck.
We would absolutely go back to Costa Rica again. We loved every moment but we definitely would do some things slightly differently the next visit since we were able to get a better feel for certain areas and wanted to spend more time in a couple of venues. Lapa Rios was a once in a lifetime place as far as I'm concerned but I wouldn't do it again... it was just too hard to climb the stairs (we were assigned a room at the very bottom of the hill despite my calling and requesting a closer room). I loved the room and dealt with the pain of the climb being out of shape and having an injured knee. I felt it was worth the pain to have all of the wildlife right there... but both me and my nearly 60 year old husband felt that once was enough.
We didn't give ourselves enough time in Monteverde but that was just because we ran out of time. We had perfect weather while we were there (which I heard was pretty unusual; green or dry season) and I would have liked a few more days to explore and actually get to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Arenal was also fabulous and we would go back to Nayara Resort in a heartbeat. We will definitely want to explore the Carribean Coast as well. We just didn't have enough time.
There was absolutely nothing about our trip that I would have changed from our original plan. I'm glad we did all that we did but our next trip will have more of the same and exploration of other areas of the country.
