We had a wonderful trip. Our trip planner was extremely helpful in setting up the trip and ensuring we were getting along okay while traveling. The tour guides were all very, very good and spoke exceptional english. The sites and tours provided were outstanding. Beautiful countries and a very well laid out trip. The overall pace was well adjusted by the day and the hikes and tours were tailored to our abilities.
15 days was about the right length of time. We ran into several travellers that were on three and four week trips, which seems to be a bit too much to take in all the beauty.
Overall, we had a great time, and would use this tour company again. They provided very good service at a good price.
Every part was enjoyable and memorable. From the boutique hotels to the city tours of Santiago and Valpariso, to the wine tastings, everything was top notch. Patagonia was extremely beautiful and Lago Gray provided great accommodations and a great place from which to explore. The glaciers and icebergs were stunning. Torres del Paines is a treasure of a park. The accommodations at the resort in Puerto Natales were particularly memorable. The restuarant was very, very good and the lay out of the hotel was unique, beautiful and relaxing. Calafate was an extremely beautiful town with beautiful roses everywhere. The hotel outside of Mendoza was also very, very good. Very nice layout in a very quiet and beautiful setting. The wine tastings were exceptional and the lunch with wine pairings at the restaurant was probably our best meal of the trip. Our stay in Buenos Aires was also very, very good. The hotel was exceptional and provided a great place to stay to end our journey. The city tour and tango evening were an enjoyable part of our memories.
We would pack differently and be more cautious.
The extreme changes in temperatures presented some interesting packing challenges.
Our domestic flights were all good and mostly on time. It would be good to get reservation numbers and confirmation numbers provided. A local airline has very restrictive luggage limits. We ended up paying $70 to check two bags on our leg from Calafate to Mendoza that were in excess of their requirements. Another local airline and Norwegian airlines were very generous with their baggage allowances and presented no problems at all. When booking domestic flights, agents should make travelers aware of the restrictions or book airlines that accommodate travelers who have baggage to support a 15 day trip to climates that varied from 40F to 85F.
We did get scammed at the Santiago airport. We did not initially see a placard with our name on it, and was approached by an young man who said he was there to help and who appeared to have proper documentation--of course he wasn't there to help. We had $250 stolen from an ATM and paid for a $120 taxi ride to get to the hotel. I think your agencies should warn travelers about this kind of scam and in bold print, say that the traveler should continue to look for the proper sign and if confused, use the emergency number provided by the agency. All the people we talked to in Santiago, hotel employees, travel guides, etc were familiar with the scam--so I think it would be great that travelers be cautioned.
