Overall the trip to Belize was great. All accommodations and staff were wonderful. Everything went smoothly. With our trip to 4 lodges/resorts and transportation, there were no glitches on connections between the Lodges/resorts and airports. Thanks!
The best stay was at the hotel in Orange Walk Town. Accommodations were great, the food was surprisingly good and Guides and tours wonderful. We couldn't give it a higher rating. The wildlife at the hotel in San Ignacio. Incredible amount of birds! The snorkeling at San Pedro - Marine Reserve, Shark Alley and Mexico Rocks. Tons of fish, sharks, rays, turtles and coral!
We would not stay at the resort in Placencia again. Pros, great room and staff. Cons, restaurant and location. The restaurant was highly rated but in the nights we ate there, there was no fish available. 75% of the menu had something to do with seafood. We were on the coast of Belize and no fish??? Location - too far from town. we would stay at a resort much closer to Placencia.San Ignacio hotel - Again, wonderful staff and eventually accommodations. Initially, we had a bad room, #14. It was right next to the restaurant where at 5am there was a lot of noise prepping breakfast. They moved us to room #1. It was quiet and spacious. Thanks for the relocation. We had 2 issues. Transportation to town. The resort charged about $70US for round trip to town. It was 5 miles away! This seemed ridiculous, they should have complimentary service like other resorts. Also, We did the ATM cave tour, it left at 7:30 am and returned at 3pm. The day before, the resort handed us lunch form to fill out. It had food items on it with no prices, we picked out our lunch and then were shocked when we checked out and found a $90US fee for our BOX LUNCH! We thought this was included in the tour. These 2 things left a sour taste and we would not stay there again. Also, the ride from Belize City to the resort was awful, construction. Dusty and rough. If we knew about this, we would have preferred to fly there and back.A hotel in San Pedro - Construction right next door. The banging started at 7am! No restaurant on premisses. We knew that when we booked, but missed breakfast included like the other resorts we stayed at. We would not stay there again. Too noisy and congested. Maybe stay north of San Pedro next time.
