This was a 20 year trip in the making. And boy did it ever live up to its reputation. My travel guide helped me pick the best tours and gave me great suggestions. I knew I couldn't do it all, but she helped me focus on the things that I really needed to do. I got to see a ballet at the Sydney Opera House and see the penguins in Melbourne. So much stuff packed into my short little month. There were a couple of mishaps, but they were all unrelated to the trip. Going through customs in a different place and rescheduling a flight. Gotta love that travel insurance. Every hotel was in a perfect location and very nice. She put me in the heart of all the action. My Australia travel agency and guide did an amazing job with my trip. Everything just went very smooth.
I don't even know where to start on the best part of my trip, but the highlights where the boutique wine tour in the Hunter Valley. Came home with 4 bottles. Seeing the beautiful ballet, Manon, performed by the Australian Ballet. And I wanted to move to Tasmania. I wasn't even going to go, but my guide really thought it would add to my trip. I LOVED IT! The best part of my trip. I did a 5 day drive from Hobart to Launceston and it wasn't enough. She suggested a personal night tour at the Bonorong Wildlife Centre, just outside of Hobart. This is where my guide, let me meet Max, the wombat. I would do this tour again and again. Loved Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road. Darwin and the magnetic termite mounds and superb waterfalls. Uluru and the Sounds of Silence dinner was so amazing. I was escorted to a table with 9 of my "other best friends". (read complete strangers) and I never wanted the night to end. I had so much fun. I took pictures of the nearby Dingoes, just babies looking for scraps. Cairns and the Cape Tribulation/Daintree area was so much fun. Actually got to try a fresh ripe banana. Puts all thoughts of what a banana is to shame.
I think the only part I would do differently was get some sort of transport pass, like a hop on/hop off bus pass or something, in Sydney. I actually had come down with a virus and couldn't walk alot without getting tired. But, I didn't know that was going to happen till just before I left. Wouldn't change a thing about the rest of the trip, except that it wasn't long enough. I'm sure all of my trips will feel that way.
