Our trip to Australia was a trip of a lifetime and it exceeded all our expectation thanks to our travel agent from the Australia tour company. Our agent worked with us tirelessly for months to customize a package to fit our needs and our budget. Our trip consisted of 10 airline flights, 8 shuttle transfers, 7 hotels and 10 tours. Every connection went like clockwork and problem free. Each tour was well managed and professionally done. Every hotel was clean and comfortable with 100% satisfaction from us. We were particularly happy with Tasmania in general and the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.
Our 4 days in Sydney over New Years was fabulous and we loved the city. The Hunter Valley Wine tour was great and we were sorry to miss the Blue Mountain tour but it did not fit. Ayers Rock was enjoyable and we were glad to make it a brief stopover. Cairns was a beautiful location and we enjoyed our 3 days there doing Karanda and the Reef. As mentioned Tasmania was super special. We loved the Bruny Island cruise and the city of Hobart. We drove our rental car to Swansea with stops at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (highly recommended) and historic Richmond. After a visit to Freycinet National Park which was lovely, we drove to Launceston.
Our 3 days in Melbourne after our Princess cruise was also very special. We enjoyed the city and the Travelodge Southbank hotel. It had the perfect location next to the Eureka Tower, the riverwalk and the free tram for the city. We flew home on Australia Day which was a little disappointing but no one considered that before the trip..
Sydney highlights include Sydney Harbor, the Opera House, the Hunter Valley Wine tour, The Sky Tower, Manly Beach and the ferry from Manly Beach to Sydney. We ate Kangaroo steak on the first day in Sydney.
In Cairns, we loved the promenade along the beach and the Sky ride to Karanda.
Hobart was a beautiful city with a beautiful water front. The Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart was spectacular and they upgraded us not knowing that it was our anniversary. We loved the fresh Tasmanian Cherries from the local farms.
We loved Melbourne and the river walk area. The pedestrian bridges and the free tram to go around the city.. We enjoyed the restaurants and the amazing calamari dishes.
We would probably expand the trip one more day to enjoy the Blue Mountain Tour in Sydney and then have Australia Day in Melbourne.
We could have considered tickets for the Australian Open in Melbourne but that was not an option when planning. We really enjoy culinary adventure and I would look for additional exotic foods.
