Detailed Itinerary 

Day 1

Arrival Day: Transfer to a hotel; Welcoming drink, dinner.

Day 2

Palm Sunday

Departure for the country to the village of Lipnica Murowana, for traditional palm festival with huge, colourful folk palms brought to church for blessing. Sightseeing of arcaded country cottages and gothic parish church of St. Andrew (15th century). Lunch in a village inn in Gosprzydowa, with a regional cuisine, Return to Krakow for dinner and overnight stay. Each visitor receives a souvenir palm.

Day 3

Holy Week: Monday

Krakow - Wieliczka - Krynica, morning or afternoon visit to Wieliczka Salt Mine; tour and lunch en route; arrival at Krynica Spa; accommodation in a spa holiday home; dinner.

Day 4

Holy Week: Tuesday

Tour of Krynica: visit to Spa Tap-Room for mineral waters, traditional promenade, any participants who wish to may attend church for Holy Week services. Easter egg-painting competition: everyone wins! Dinner and overnight in Krynica.

Day 5

Holy Week: Wednesday

Krynica - Tarnow - KrakowDeparture for Tarnow; tour of the town, a visit to Diocesan Museum. Lunch en route. Arrival in Krakow; free time; dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6

Holy Week: Maundy Thursday

Sightseeing of Krakow and Wawel Hill (Cathedral and Castle), stroll down Royal Way; visit to the Collegium Maius and the University Museum; Market Square, Cloth Hall, St. Mary's Basilica; lunch; free time for shopping or a visit to Kazimierz, the former Jewish quarter. Dinner in a restaurant with music.

Day 7

Holy Week: Good Friday

Excursion to Wadowice (birthplace of Pope John Paul II), followed by a visit to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska for the Passion Mystery, a traditional open-air spectacle of the Way of the Cross. Return to Krakow, followed by visits to local churches to see the traditional Grave of Jesus displays. Evening penitential service in Franciscan Basilica with a procession through the cloisters with a religious confraternity in black hooded robes. On this day, traditionally a day of fasting, there is no meat on the menu.

Day 8

Holy Week: Holy Easter Saturday

The traditional blessing of the Easter food-baskets in church; visits to the Grave of Jesus displays in the churches of Podgorze; visit to the Ethnographic Museum; free afternoon.

Day 9

Easter Sunday

Traditional Easter breakfast with Easter wishes. Each visitor receives a souvenir Easter lamb and Easter egg. Excursion to Bielany and visit to the Camaldolese Hermitage Church. Easter Sunday is one of the very few days in the year when the Hermits of Bielany allow ladies to visit their church. Dinner in an elegant restaurant.

Day 10

Easter Monday

Easter breakfast followed by a visit to the district of Salwator for the Premonstratensian Church and the famous Emaus Easter Fair with the traditional water-splashing. Departure for Zakopane; Gubalowka mountain railway; bonfire barbecue lunch accompanied by traditional Highland tea and folk music. Return to Krakow for overnight.

Day 11


Farewell and departure. .. or maybe a second helping of Zakopane or Krynica for some spring sunshine.
