Detailed Description

There is no better way to experience the magic of Peru than through its delectable cuisine.  Although the history of Peru is captivatingly rich and the natural terrain is diverse, Peruvian gastronomy offers visitors a unique and delicious glimpse into the local culture. Throughout your 8-day adventure, you will tour Peru's highlights alongside your expert guide in addition to learning about the foods that are loved by locals and visitors alike. Throughout your luxurious, 8-day Peruvian adventure, you will explore the fascinating cultures that are hidden deep within Peru's towns and villages, including relics of the ancient Inca Empire.

Your journey will begin in Cusco, which was once considered the navel of the world. As the birthplace of the Inca civilization, the city is a captivating combination of pre-Columbian and post-colonial influence. You will experience it all as you visit the city and step inside the ancient Sun Temple, which is known as Qorikancha. Then, you will be provided with your first taste of local flavor when you visit several open-aired markets in downtown Cusco. As you move from stall to stall, you can converse with the locals and try local fruits like the chirimoya and maracuya. The following day, your guide will lead you on an immersive tour of Chinchero, which was once a resort getaway for the Inca nobility. Later, as you continue through the Sacred Valley, you will arrive in the mountain town of Aguas Calientes, which is home to the famed UNESCO ruins of Machu Picchu.

During the second half of your journey, you will return to Cusco and discover the ancient ruins at Tambomachay, which lie just beyond the city limits. In the evening, you can indulge in one of Peru's most revered delicacies: cuy. Afterward, you will venture to Puno, where you will become steeped in the culture of the Uros people while on the community's floating islands. Here, you will learn about ancient reed weaving techniques that have sustained the islands for hundreds of years, and later, you can sample the lake's famed trout. As you return to Lima the next day, the pace of daily life will quicken. On your final full day, you will have the opportunity for a self-guided exploration of the Barranco District before indulging in an exquisite ceviche dinner on your final night in the country.
