Designed for the adventurous family who wants to explore nearly everything that Iceland has to offer, this customizable 10-day tour will have your family wishing that they could stay longer. Sail across the water in an ancient Viking ship, dog sled around the Golden Circle, and helicopter over the colorful mountaintops of Landmannalaugar. Your family will enjoy unearthing the many secrets Iceland hold's underneath its icy exterior.
Reykjavik – The Giantess of Iceland
When your plane will descend through the clouds into Keflavik Airport. Once you have collected your belongings, your transfer will lead you to your luxurious accommodation to settle in before transferring you to the Black Cave. Here, you and your family will discover the giantess who lives inside the cave. Afterward, your guide will escort you to a dog sledding location to lead your family on a grand tour of the Golden Circle. Once your adventure concludes, you will have the opportunity to have a photoshoot with the hardworking team of dogs.
Hvolsvollur – Helicopter Above Mountaintops
After breakfast, your guide will drive you to Gluggafoss, which is a series of waterfalls that lead into the Merkja River. Then, your guide will escort your family to a helicopter center, where you will fly to the top of Landmannalaugar, which provides one of the more breathtaking views in the Highlands. As you and your family hover in the helicopter above the majestic mountain, you will be amazed by the colors that bleed across the slopes. You will fly back down the mountain before traversing the Laugahraun lava field, which was formed after an eruption that occurred in 1477.
Hofn – Europe's Largest Glacier
This morning, you will travel to Solheimasandur. When you reach the site of the plane wreck, your family will be able to climb inside to relive the lives of the people who had to crash-land the plane. Myrdalsjokull is the fourth-largest ice cap in all of Iceland, and the glacier sits on top of the dormant volcano, Katla. Here, you and your family will descend into the Dragon Glass Ice Cave. After lunch, your guide will escort you to a snowmobile center near Vatnajokull Glacier, where you will be outfitted with gear to snowmobile around the largest glacier in Europe.
Eskifjordur – The Mythical Lagarfljot
After breakfast, you will travel to Eskifjordur. Lagarfljot is a narrow lake in Iceland that sits in a calm field among the mountains. Here, the area is best known for its natural beauty. The folklore is the reason many people venture out to Lagarfljot: it is the home to the mythical creature that is known as the Lagarfljotsormurinn. As you wander through Lagarfljot, your family will be thrilled by the idea of the creature making its long-awaited appearance. Afterward, your guide will lead you to Bulandstindur, which is a mountain that is considered to be one of Iceland’s energy sources.
Husavik – The Edge of a Waterfall
Today, your guide will escort you to Dettifoss, which is the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe. The Krafla lava fields are located to the side of Lake Myvatn and are connected to a larger volcanic system of the same name. The caldera is a large, cauldron-like area that formed after the emptying of a magma chamber during a volcanic eruption. Here, you can appreciate the sheer size of the caldera along with the size of Krafla with its highest peak standing at 2,684 feet tall. From here, your guide will lead you on a whale-watching expedition.
Saudarkrokur – Tour through Lava Fields
After a delectable breakfast, you and your guide will trek to Eyjafjordur, which is one of the largest fjords in the country. After your experience on the fjord, your guide will lead you to a horse farm, where your family will saddle up for an adventure across the lava fields. The Icelandic horses are some of the most docile animals in the world. After lunch, your guide will lead you to the Black Fortress. At one time, the volcanic eruption spewed lava that flowed over the lake, causing it to boil.
Holmavik – An Underwater Ballet
This morning, your family will venture to Kolugljufur Canyon, which is home to a multitude of remarkable waterfalls. As you walk down to Porufoss waterfall, you will be able to stand next to the powerful rapids. Next, your guide will lead you to the Icelandic Seal Center, a research center and museum focused on seals. Here, your family will learn about the different seal colonies within the country in addition to the history of seal hunting and how it played an important role in Icelandic life. Afterward, you will venture to the Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft museum in Holmavik.
Isafjordur – An Ancient Viking Ship
The Westfjords may be less populated than the rest of the country, but its landscapes are just as impressive. Your experienced guide will lead you through the mountains and stop to marvel at all the puffins that have made their homes along the cliffs. From here, your guide will show you the Valagil Ravine, which is a spectacular chasm that houses a mighty waterfall. Then, you will journey to Thingeyri, where your family will enjoy a true Viking experience of sailing on an authentic Viking boat. You will then culminate your day at the Icelandic Sea Monster Museum in Bildudalur.
Hellnar – Descend into the Underworld
In the morning, you will transfer to Snaefellsnes National Park, which contains legendary ice caps, glaciers, lava fields, and waterfalls. You will climb the Londrangar Basalt Cliffs, where the sea stacks may appear as a castle emerging from the sea. At the Shark Museum in Bjarnarhofn, you will learn about the process of fermented Greenland shark fin. At the end of your tour, you and your family will be provided with the opportunity to taste this uniquely smelling delicacy. Your guide will escort you to the Vatnshellir lava cave, where you will descend into the underworld of the country.
Reykjavik – Departure
Upon waking and finishing your breakfast, you will be led to Hraunfossar, which are the lava waterfalls on the edge of Borgarfjordur. From here, your guide will lead you back to Reykjavik. You will have a stop at the Blue Lagoon so that you and your family can have a relaxing dip in its healing waters. Shortly, your transfer will lead you to Keflavik Airport for your flight home.
