These vibrant masterpieces will put you in touch with Dubrovnik’s rich cultural past.

In the afternoon, you’ll have your choice of adventure or relaxation. You can take the cable car to the peak of Mount Srd, where you’ll have a breath-taking view of the city. Or you can take a boat to the nearby National Park on Lokrum Island, where you’ll find eye-catching local flora and fauna.

Dubrovnik’s location in the southern region of Croatia puts it right next door to Montenegro, where the scenic Bay of Kotor awaits. Here you’ll have a guide to lead your exploration of the limestone mountains and the impressive coastline. The 14th century town walls were set securely beneath Lovcén massif, a peak that’s more than 3,600 feet above the sea. Day 4:

The start of the day comes at your leisure, as you choose your departure time for your trip to the island of Hvar. Get an early start, as the sun rises over the water, or linger over a long breakfast at the hotel. Your private driver will guide you along the grand Dalmatian coast. After admiring the natural beauty, you’ll take a scenic detour inland to the old city of Mostar, in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The main attraction here is the famous Stari Most, or the Old Bridge. The stoic architecture of the bridge looms over the ice-blue water of the Neretva River. You’ll get a local’s view of the city, with your own personal guide on a two-hour tour before lunch. After enjoying some tasty local cuisine among the cobblestone streets, you’ll continue your journey to Hvar.

When you arrive on the island, you will be brought directly to your accommodation, where you’ll settle in amidst the natural luxury of the coast.

What’s Included: breakfast, tour, transfer, accommodation

Day 5:

Europe’s sunniest island, Hvar, is a gorgeous combination of beaches and olive groves, fisherman and grape growers. You’ll be treated to an off-road tour through typical old villages, combining amazing scenery with authentic local charm. The unspoiled nature, panoramic views, and luscious groves are a sight to behold. You’ll stop at villages including Pitve, which dates back 2,000 years, for a delicious lunch of locally sourced cuisine, and maybe even a glass of the famous local rosé wine. After a full day of sightseeing and adventure, you’ll be driven back to your accommodation.

What’s Included: breakfast, tour, accommodation

Day 6:

Hvar is one of our favorite places to kick back and relax, and that’s exactly what you should do today. You’ll have the whole day to spend at your leisure. You could charter a boat and explore the Pakleni archipelago, or take a water taxi to one of the amazing beaches. There are plenty of exciting options here, and you can do as little or as much as you’d like. There’s the unique Fortica just northwest of St. Stephen’s Square, and passing through winding cobblestone streets will lead you to the incredible view. Or just kick back and relax with a coffee and a slice of traditional Croatian cake at one of the local sidewalk cafes.

What’s Included: breakfast, accommodation

Day 7:

Set out for the marina after breakfast, where you’ll hop aboard a ferry for a one-hour ride to the famous port city of Split. You’ll be met by a guide as you disembark, and you can store your bags before exploring Old Town. Split is modern, yet laid back, with plenty of impressive historic architecture, including the ruins of Diocletian’s Palace, which dates back to the Roman Empire, and the atmospheric marina.

Split’s narrow streets open up to hidden passages and tiny courtyards that give the city a vivacious bohemian feel. Let your senses lead you, as you smell the aromatic seafood and listen to the sounds from local street musicians. Towards the end of the day, you’ll be picked up by private transport and taken to your hotel in Trogir, which is even more charming than Split.

What’s Included: breakfast, transfer, tour, accommodation

Day 8:

When the sun rises on Trogir, you’ll see exactly why you made the detour from Split. This tiny fishing town is surrounded by the lapping waters of the Adriatic, where colorful boats bob in the waves. The quiet streets of Trogir will be a welcome change from the bustle of Split. One of the architectural highlights is the Cathedral of St. Lovro, with three naves from the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. You can pick up your rental car from the hotel at your leisure. The car will be yours for the rest of your trip.

Next, you’ll drive off to the amazing Plitvice National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site that’s brimming with waterfalls, babbling streams and beautiful rivers.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental, accommodation

Day 9:

This morning you’ll depart at your leisure for Rovnij. Continue exploring the park, or get an early start on your drive. Along the way, don’t miss the picturesque seaside resort of Opatija. You’ll want to stroll along the famous boardwalk and perhaps enjoy a nice lunch followed by a drive along the picturesque Kvarner Bay. After your sightseeing stops, you’ll probably arrive in Rovnij in the late afternoon, the perfect time to check in to your hotel. Relax after your drive with an evening stroll around Old Town and the lively harbor area.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental, accommodation

Day 10:

Your first day in Rovnij should definitely be spent discovering the city’s secrets, like the Old Town and its winding alleyways. If you want to get a bird’s-eye-view, climb up the St. Euphemia Tower, where you’ll have the best perspective on the town, its winding walkways, and the shimmering water. If you’re up for a hike or a bike ride, take the opportunity to explore nearby Zlatni Rt Park.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental, accommodation

Day 11:

On your second full day in Rovnij, you might want to get out of town and explore the wonderful Istrian countryside. Fabulous medieval settlements rise out of the landscape, set against the plush valley and the sea. Two of our favorite hillside villages are Grozjnan and Motovun, situated in the northern region and overlooking the Mirna River Valley, complete with a 14th century stone citadel. More historic destinations include the towns of Pula and Porec. Take your time as you wander, letting your curiosity be your guide.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental, accommodation

Day 12:

Today you’ll have an easy drive ahead of you, so there’s plenty of time for detours. As you make your way to Ljubljana, you can stop at the massive Postojna cave system, which is over 60,000 feet long, and full of incredible stalactites and rock formations. We recommend taking a cave tour, as well as visiting the nearby Predjama Castle. It was built into the side of a cliff, and is a sight to behold. You’ll likely arrive in Ljubljana in the evening. You’ll have plenty of time to check in to your accommodation and then kick back and enjoy the city’s incredible atmosphere, going for a walk along the Ljubljanica River or stopping in at one of the many fine restaurants.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental, accommodation

Day 13:

Ljubljana never fails to win over visitors with its charm and natural beauty. Most of the Old Town has been converted to a pedestrian-only zone, so it’s easy to explore the highlights on foot. You’ll have a private walking tour with a local guide so you can skip the tourist traps and see the best of the city. Visit the castle for spectacular views, but also be sure to take time to stroll along the river in the center. Ljubljana has a wonderful restaurant and cafe scene, and many great venues are right on the water.

What’s Included: breakfast, tour, car rental, accommodation

Day 14:

Slovenia is relatively small, so it’s easy enough to explore. From Ljubljana, our top recommendation is a day trip to Bled. Here you can spend the afternoon enjoying the gorgeous glacial lake and medieval castle situated on an island. This place is a Slovenian icon, and it’s easy to see why. The entire town has a fairy tale atmosphere that will astound you. You can stroll along the alluring jade water, hike through the surrounding forests, or even pilot a boat to float romantically over the lake. No trip to Slovenia is complete without a visit to this tranquil setting. If you like seafood, try the fresh local trout. And don’t miss the indulgent cream cake, a regional speciality!

If you are ambitious, you can also take in Lake Bohinj and the Vintgar Gorge, which are both about a 15-minute drive from Bled, and are definitely worth seeing.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental, accommodation

Day 15:

Your trip comes to a close as you enjoy breakfast, then settle into the 1.5-hour drive from Ljubljana to Zagreb, where you’ll return your rental car before catching your flight at Zagreb airport.

What’s Included: breakfast, car rental
