Detailed Itinerary 

Day 1: San Jose – The Welcoming Neighborhoods

Welcome to the energetic city of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. The city encompasses the vibrant and diverse cultures of the country that range from the Atlantic Ocean, enchanting mountains, and Pacific Coast. Your private transfer meets you at the airport and takes you to your fabulous accommodation located in a historic and charming colonial mansion. People stroll through the pedestrian malls of Avenida Central, situated downtown. The stores offer large and creative window displays that attract people from all over the city.

Outside of downtown the colonial mansions of Barrio Amon bring the opulent past of coffee barons to the city’s modern streets. Gardens offer unobstructed views of the mountains that surround the city. Eucalyptus trees tower over the quaint walkways of La Sabana Park. An art museum and the national soccer stadium can also be found within the park’s borders. Children kick around soccer balls and wear jerseys with their favorite player’s name bannered across the back. Charming old men sit on park benches and read the newspaper as the sunlight spreads across the valley floor. Settle into the city’s underlying charm and enjoy its marvelous luxuries.

Day 2: Tortuguero – The Caribbean Reaches

The sun rises over the mountainside and brings the energetic streets back to life. The sweet aromas of star fruit and mango accompany the rich layers of fresh pressed Costa Rican coffee. The day begins and you are ready to venture deep into the Costa Rican wilderness. Your private transfer takes you through the jungles of Braulio Carrillo National Park en route to the secluded canals of Tortuguero. The dense jungle vegetation enraptures the mountains. You arrive at the riverbanks and board a boat that courses through the natural water highway of the region.

Tortuguero was once an archipelago of volcanic islands and now is a network of freshwater lagoons, wetlands, waterways, and Caribbean beaches. River turtles lounge on the protruding tree branches and soak up the sun. Caiman float in the water; their eyes peek just above the surface and watch out for prey and predators alike. Endangered West Indian Manatees, also known as the “sea cow” reach up to 11.5 feet long. They make their way from the Caribbean coastline and into the shallow areas around the estuaries. Day 3: Tortuguero – The Meandering Tropics

The wild calls of the surrounding jungle rise with the dawn. Birds twitter and chirp under the canopy and howler monkeys cry out to one another in the treetops. They can reach up to 36 inches in height and can sense fruits and nuts up to a mile away from their location. Their deep guttural growl rattles the leaves. After breakfast, you will tour through the canals of Tortuguero National Park to discover the stunning landscape and wildlife that enriches the region. The park covers 77,032 acres of land and stands 755 feet at its highest elevation. The temperate Caribbean water brushes against the dark sand beaches. The breeze is cool and relaxing.

The bird calls create the light-hearted soundtrack to your exploration. Palm trees arch over the banks closer to the ocean and giant buttress roots reach out from their powerful trunks. Day 4: Arenal – Caribbean Canals to Riveting Volcano

The morning sounds of vivacious howler monkeys and lively singing birds are accompanied by the creamy, indulgent flavors of jackfruit and banana. After breakfast, you will fly to San Jose and make your way through the rainforest of Braulio Carrillo National Park en route to Arenal. The trees and rolling mountains look different from the air as you tour the canopy on an aerial tram. Toucans dwell in the treetops. Their large, arching bills are colored with bright yellow and tipped with red. They grow up to 11.5 inches with a rounded tail. The canopy around them shimmers jade beneath the rising sun.

You travel over a mile through the trees and find endless wonders along the way, from avifauna to orchids. The flowers’ petals swirl with light purple and cream hues to create a hypnotic effect. In Arenal you will settle into a hotel that gives you an exciting view of both Arenal Lake and Arenal Volcano. The water in the distance is placid and reflective. Day 5: Monteverde – Edging Volcanoes and Clouds

Listen to the sounds of the morning accompany the rising steam of the enchanting volcano landscape. Arenal Volcano is 5,437 feet above sea level and erupted daily from 1968 until 2012. The magma would light up the summit in the evening and thunderous sounds would echo around the mountainside. Follow your guide on a private tour of Arenal Volcano National Park and listen to the remarkable stories and legends of the region. The park stretches across 29,692 acres of protected land. Day 6: Monteverde – Luxuries of the Clouds

The sky comes down and meets the mountaintops in the Cloud Forest Reserve. The birds call out beneath the canopy. Moss paves the forest floor and looks like lush carpet. The rivers meander along the rolling hills. The water rushes against the bedrock and mists into the air. The rainforest is dense. The aroma of ferns drifts through the air. After breakfast, you can tour through the canopy on the private reserve, strolling along the aerial walkways. Orchids blossom in the treetops around 135 feet in the air.

Crimson and effervescent green plumage of resplendent quetzal stand out against the shimmering leaves. The mountains rise to an altitude of 4,662 feet above sea level. Hummingbirds flutter and monkeys ramble through the high branches. Spider monkeys’ tails can grow to a length of 35 inches. Day 7: San Jose – Bright Lights of Forest and City

The quetzals twitter in the cool light of the morning. The clouds have yet to have swept over the high altitude rainforest. The luxuries of the countryside come in packages both big and small, from the vast landscape to the subtle flavors of the complex cuisine. After breakfast your private transfer will escort you along your return trip to San Jose. The city continues to thrive with bustling energy. The restaurant boasts its sustainable seafood and offers a variety of fresh and flavorful dishes, from Ceviche of the day to a salmon dish encrusted with dill. Day 8: San Jose – Over the Mountains
