Day 3 - Welcome to the Romance of Australia (Sydney)

Move over Paris, the harbor city of Sydney is ready to steal the hearts of lovers and newlyweds with breezy beaches, world-class dining and a stunning harbor that twinkles when the sun dips below the horizon.

Begin your romantic journey in the cosmopolitan harborside city and see how easy it is to forget everything and give yourselves over to romance. Upon arrival, you’ll be taken to your luxurious room at the Four Seasons Hotel in the historic Rocks district. Located in the center of the city, the hotel will provide you with the perfect starting point for your Sydney adventure. Take it easy on your first day with a visit to the hotel’s upmarket spa, a stroll along Sydney Harbour or dinner at one of the many swanky restaurants in the area.

What’s included: airport transfer, accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel

Day 4 – City, Beach and Culture (Sydney)

Few places blend relaxed beachside culture with modern architecture and artistic depth as successfully as Sydney. The city breathes ease and space, while at the same time presenting visitors with a forest of sleek skyscrapers, a multitude of galleries and architectural icons.

On the second day of your trip, you can explore it all at your leisure. Begin with a morning wander through the narrow lanes of the historical Rocks district. Settlers and convicts founded the area and many of their stories still linger in its nooks and crannies, alongside some of the city’s premier opal jewelry stores, art boutiques and pubs. Then stroll along the harbor passing musicians, buskers and the ferry wharf, until you reach the white sails of the Sydney Opera House. Stop here a minute and gaze over the harbor, before setting your sights on the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Steal a serene moment together, as you stroll along the water to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair — a legendary rock formation that affords spectacular views over the harbor. Linger as long as you like and when you’re ready, walk back to Circular Quay and take a spin around the harbor on a luxury yacht or hop onto the Manly ferry.  Both will offer you a novel perspective of the city, while the latter will take you to one of Sydney’s most beloved shores. A resident of the northern beaches, Manly boasts a sophisticated restaurant and bar scene, prestigious yacht clubs and an easygoing ocean-side culture. Walk the Esplanade — a pedestrian walkway lined with bars, pubs and ice-cream parlors — until you reach the beach, then spend some time on the sand.

As evening nears, nab a table at a beachside restaurant and enjoy a romantic dinner with the Pacific Ocean as a companion. Return on the last ferry, admiring the dazzling nighttime city skyline.

What’s included: accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel

Day 5 – The Eastern Suburbs and a Ferris Wheel (Sydney)

Begin this day by heading out to Paddington — a leafy suburb known for its vintage and boutique stores, terrace houses and fabulous cafes. Then continue east to Bondi, Sydney’s most famous city beach. Breathe in the electric atmosphere of the area and see the world-famous Sydney lifesavers. For a bit of seclusion, follow the Pacific Trail, which will lead you across cliff tops to panoramic lookouts and the quieter beaches of Tamarama — often dubbed “glamarama” due to its fancy crowd — and Clovelly. The final stop on the trail will be Coogee Beach, where you can indulge in fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants.

In the afternoon, make your way to Milson’s Point — a well-to-do ocean-side suburb, home to the legendary Luna Park. The amusement park, which can trace its humble beginnings to 1935 (although has only been in its current form since 2004), has a charming old-world feel and a number of traditional carnival rides. Take a step back to more innocent times by grabbing a candy cane, trying your hand at carnival games and laughing your way through Coney Island — the world’s only operational 1930s-style funhouse. When the sun begins to set, ride the Ferris wheel, drinking in each other’s company and the harbor views.

What’s included: accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel

Day 6 – A Blue Mountains Adventure (Sydney)

Leave the razzle-dazzle of the city behind and head west into the realm of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains. The trees that populate the landscape release oil which, when mixed with dust particles, refracts light in such a way as to coat the entire area in a magical blue hue. See the effect for yourself as you begin your adventure at the famous Three Sisters lookout at Echo Point.

Your next stop should undoubtedly be a thundering waterfall or two. If you enjoy a challenge, you can undertake the four-hour Valley of the Waters National Pass trail, which will take you into the heart of the rainforest and close to cascading waterfalls. However if you’d rather take it easy, you can take the Scenic Skyway and peruse Katoomba Falls from the comfort of a glass-bottomed cabin, 270 meters above ground.

Head back towards the city and spend the rest of the day with cute koalas, kangaroos and other native wildlife at Featherdale Wildlife Park, or stay in the mountains and visit the charming historic village of Leura, where art galleries, vintage shops, cafes and boutiques line leafy streets. Take time out with a coffee and cake or venture to the landscaped Everglades Gardens.

As an option, if you remain in the mountains, make your way to Echoes Restaurant; the former retreat of Australian writer, Thomas Keneally. Located on a cliff edge, overlooking the Jamison Valley, the restaurant offers sweeping mountain views and a modern Australian menu.

What’s included: accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel

Day 7 – Welcome to North Queensland (Sydney – Cairns – Port Douglas)

Wave goodbye to the Sydney metropolis and prepare for a complete change of scenery and pace as a private airport transfer sees you on a flight to tropical North Queensland. After landing in Cairns, you’ll be taken on an hour-long ride along the coast to the well-appointed four and a half-star Thala Beach Lodge in Port Douglas.

The boutique adults-only resort will welcome you with a relaxed atmosphere, two free-form swimming pools and the keys to your very own self-contained studio apartment. Once you’ve had a moment to rest, the afternoon will be at your whim. You may like to explore the charms of Port Douglas by strolling its streets and beaches, take a dip in the pool or enjoy a glass of wine (and the tropical climate) on your balcony.

In the evening, select a fine-dining establishment on the trendy Macrossan Street or over the water on Inlet Street and enjoy a romantic dinner.

What’s included: flight from Sydney to Cairns, airport transfers, accommodation: Thala Beach Lodge

Days 8 - Relax in Tropical Paradise (Port Douglas)

The true lure of the north — aside from breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage sights — is the tranquility, leisurely pace of life and the feeling of relaxation that abounds. Embrace it all on your second day in Port Douglas, by taking a deep breath in and giving over to the easy culture of the charming seaside village.

Pop into a cafe on Macrossan Street for a morning coffee and breakfast, before strolling down to the palm-lined Four Mile Beach. Find a secluded spot on the sand and lose yourself in the sound of the waves and warming strokes of the sun. Wade into the calm, warm waters and reconnect with nothing but the beauty of your surroundings to distract you. If you’re of an adventurous disposition, you could try your hand at kite surfing or paddleboarding, if not, take a leisurely tour through Port Douglas with a local guide, who’ll point out the best dining options, hidden hotspots and the best places for photographs, while regaling you with tales of the area.

In the evening, prepare your senses for the Flames of the Forest dining experience. Located in a marquee in the middle of a rainforest, this romantic dinner will involve local delicacies, premium wines and dreamy natural surroundings lit by fairy lights and candles.

What’s included: accommodation: Thala Beach Lodge

Day 9 – Rainforest adventures (Port Douglas)

Begin your day at the crack of dawn with a romantic sunrise hot air balloon ride. Watch as the sky and land transform with the coming of the light and raise a toast to the watercolor hues, the vast expanse of the ocean and the dazzling greenery of the Daintree Rainforest that surround you.

Once your feet are back on firm land, explore the wonders from a different perspective with a walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest. As one of the world’s oldest surviving rainforests, and one boasting some of its earliest plant life, it is a sight to behold. Moss-covered trees, bright green canopies, gorges, rivers and incredible waterfalls will greet you, giving you the impression that you’ve stumbled into a fairytale.

After your Daintree experience, get in touch with the local indigenous culture at the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Meet with indigenous guides and take a peek into a living history that spans tens of thousands of years. See the famous Tjapukai dancers, watch boomerang- and spear-throwing demonstrations, learn how to find medicine in the bush and try your hand at playing the didgeridoo.

What’s included: accommodation: Thala Beach Lodge

Day 10 – Explore the Great Barrier Reef (Port Douglas)

The world’s largest coral reef system boasts 133,000 square miles of vibrant coral, fish and crustaceans. It is large enough to be seen from space and jaw-dropping enough to be both a World Heritage Site and one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Pack your swimming gear, hat and underwater camera and set off on a five-hour snorkeling (or diving) Silversonic Outer Barrier Reef Tour. A luxury catamaran will pick you up and take you out to discover the magnificent Agincourt Ribbon Reef. On the way you’ll be treated to muffins and focaccias, as well as dazzling views of the Coral Sea.

You’ll then be taken to three different reef sites, each of which you can snorkel or dive to your heart’s content. If you’re in luck, you might even see and swim with dwarf minke whales — an experience you’ll not soon forget.

What’s included: accommodation: Thala Beach Lodge

Day 11 - Depart Australia (Port Douglas – Cairns - US)

Sadly, on day 11 it will be time to say goodbye. After taking a final walk around Port Douglas, you’ll be taken to Cairns airport, where your plane home will await you.

What’s included: airport transfer, return flight to the US
