Trip Highlights

Detailed Description

This trip will give you the opportunity to see the incredible Inca settlement of Machu Picchu in the finest style possible - a real once in a lifetime experience. You will start off with a night in Lima, Peru's energetic capital city. You will be staying in a luxury hotel that is ideally located for access to all of the best parts of the city, as well as providing stunning views over the Pacific ocean, especially from the rooftop swimming pool. The following day you will fly from Lima to Cuzco, high up in the Andes mountain. You will need to spend a few days here in order to acclimitise to the altitude before ascending to Machu Picchu. You will be staying in a beautifully refurbished 18th century monastery, that provides oxygenated air in the rooms to help the acclimitisation process. The architecture is very impressive and a guide will be provided to show you around the most fascinating buildings. After 3 nights in Cuzco you will be taken to board the Hiram Bingham train. The journey on this beautifully furnished train harks back to the golden age of rail travel. Breakfast will be served as you wind up through the Sacred Valley. When you arrive at the entrance to the ruins your local expert guide will accompany you as you explore this fascinating complex whose location defies the imagination. There is plenty of time to take side hikes to an interesting Inca Hanging bridge, back up the Inca trail to the sun gate or a strenuous climb to the top of Huayna Picchu for an awe-inspiring Condor's eye view of Machu Picchu. Savour the moment, take photos and relax as you spend the night in the only hotel inside the sanctuary, with breathtaking views from your bedroom window. The next day you’ll have a full day to explore the ruins even further on your own, before reboarding the Hiram Bingham train for the return journey to Cuzco. Cocktails and dinner will be served on the descent. You will then spend the night in Cuzco before returning to Lima the next morning for 2 final nights beside the Pacific ocean. You will be given a private city tour that offers you a combination of the different attractions in Lima and its three historical periods: pre-hispanic, colonial and contemporary. For those interested in archeology, culture and history this is a trip that must be taken at some point in life.
