My trip to Peru and in particular Machu Picchu had been on my "bucket list" for several years. As an executive manager in local government here in California I have limited time and found it challenging to plan the details of such a trip. Fortunately, I discovered this travel company on the Internet and after a few emails with agent and her team they had designed my dream trip.
Our 10-day trip to Peru was a perfect blend of contemporary Peruvian culture mixed with the rich history of the Inca and other pre-Inca civilizations. The trip was extremely well paced and our daily activities never took the full day allowing us ample time to rest, relax or do things on our own. The archeological sites we were taken to were superb. Our guides were exceptionally knowledgeable about each site and its significance. Moreover, our guides were extremely patient and responsive to questions. I would particularly like to commend our guide in Sacred Valley and Cusco and our guide in Machu Picchu for their professionalism and outstanding customer service. Having guides that are truly interested in the client's happiness and well-being is so refreshing and makes the overall experience that much more pleasant.
I cannot emphasize the importance of having a competent travel company plan out your trip. While I recognize that it is more costly to go through a travel company, the benefits of having a travel professional plan out every detail of the trip from domestic air to ground transportation to where you are going to stay and eat far exceed any amount of savings you might achieve by doing it on your own. And while there are other tour companies that will charge less if you travel with a group, I can honesty say that the personalized service of having your own guide and vehicle is so much better and gives you far more control to do what you want to do I will never go back to group travel again.
If you are planning on visiting Peru, I highly recommend that you consult with this company and give them the opportunity to design your dream vacation like they did and superbly executed for me.
Visiting Machu Picchu was far and beyond the highlight of our trip. The views were absolutely incredible and words can hardly describe the feeling one has standing on top of the Guard House looking down into the fog shrouded ruins. I also enjoyed seeing the Pisac, Ullantaytambo and Tipon ruins. Our stay at the resort in the Sacred Valley was exceptional. I highly recommend this resort for your first few days to acclimate yourself before venturing off to Cusco or any of the ruins at altitude. Finally, I am glad we were able to work into our tour a visit to a silversmith in Cusco. It was not only educational learning how to make silver jewelry, but we had the opportunity to purchase some very nicely crafted items at very reasonable prices.
In hindsight I would have liked to have set aside more time to visit some of the museums especially the Casa Concha Museum in Cusco and the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History in Lima. We simply didn't have enough time in our schedule to take in these museums.
