The travel arrangements were quite personalized. There were some points where the travel company just booked us on the "typical" events and those were dissapointing moments. But there were plenty of other wonderful tours that they booked for us that were quite wonderful. While this company certainly can do personalized trips, they aren't the top notch service who covers more than just their bases. There were times when I felt like they didn't even know where we were. And it required a great deal of planning on our part on the front end.
The places were wonderful, but the people and food were even more amazing. Halong Bay is a beautiful place. Magical and relaxing. I was surprised by the beaches/resorts/scuba diving throughout the country. Equally wonderful are the numerous opportunities for adventuring - biking, hiking, rapelling. Vietnam was a wonderful place to visit.
We'd think more critically about how to plan our day to day activities. We covered a lot of ground and spent a great deal of time in the car and on planes. Which is fine, it was necessary since we wanted to cover so much of the country. But there were details in the logistics that the travel agent should have foreseen and helped us to avoid - but didn't. Nothing went terribly wrong but there were things we had to forego or miss completely because they didn't know how to think out of the box or couldn't get out of the ease of the way the usually do things. The Vietnam travel company certainly knows the best tour operators throughout the country but beyond that, I wouldn't say they offered us luxury travel options. There is a difference between private tours and personalized service.
