Travel Review: Luxury Family Vacation to Croatia, Budva, Montenegro, Croatia, Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split,...

Doris S. (Charlene)

Doris's Review

What are your overall comments on the trip and travel company?

This Croatia travel agency provided personal contact and were very responsive. The itinerary, tour guides and drivers were top notch. They were very personable and very interesting. The hotels were as described and very nice. There was some miscommunication somewhere along the line regarding the location of the apartment (Apartment Stradun) in Dubrovnik. We were under the impression that it was on the first floor, but when we arrived after midnight, we found it was on the third floor (4th floor in the U. S.) up a circular stairway.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

We loved Croatia. It is far more enjoyable than crowded Italy. The people in Croatia are very friendly, helpful and warm. They really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We traveled from Budva, Montenegro, to Split, Croatia, using Dubrovnik, Hvar and Split as our bases. The country is breathtaking with beautiful old walled towns, fabulous scenery and crystal blue water. The most memorable part of the trip happened in Split at the Green Market. We stopped to talk to a vendor who was selling handmade lavender soap and asked for directions to a restaurant. She insisted on giving us a bar of her special soap as a momento of our visit to Split. Another vendor asked us to send him a post card from our home city in the U. S. We did not have correct change for handmade angels we purchased from another vendor. She did not have change either, but insisted we take the angels despite our still owing her a few cents. I have traveled widely and never met such generosity toward strangers.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

I would skip the side trip to Zagreb. I would also double check the location and accessability of lodging/accommodations, particularly if mobility is an issue.
