*** SECURITY ALERT: MAJOR THEFT ISSUE ON OVERNIGHT TRAIN FROM PARIS TO VENICE ****
Europe has changed over past 12 years. Still very romantic and charming, however the criminal element is spreading like cancer within EU zone. Police force is incapable of stopping criminals. Beside England and Venice we did not feel safe with our wallets. We were victim of theft in overnight train from Paris to Venice, while sleeping in our locked cabin. The Italian train staff did not offer any help and no police assistance either. The train station in Paris was unsafe and the train was dirty. Dont expect to eat on the train because your cabin will be not be secure.
This theft reference was limited to overnight sleeper trains specially to Italy. They installed double safety locks on each cabin door few years ago. I guess the thieves figured out how to open them.
Everything else on the trip was no problem. The travel agent was for most part very professional and supportive of all our needs. He was easily accessible and the itinerary was flexible when we wanted to make a change. I feel though they should have done some research about passneger safety on overnight trains.
On the positive note the tour guides were very professional at every destination. Hotel reservation were as promised. Overall a very enjoyable vacation except horror on Paris-Venice overnight train.
Travel to English countryside. Bastil's day celebration in Paris. Venice was family favorite.
Do not take anythign expensive or any significant amount of cash. Do not travel by overnight trains, instead use cheap airlines. Do not walk around with wallet full of credit cards and cash. The criminals are working with taxi drivers and corrupt officials. Take an ATM card to withdraw small amount of cash as needed. All our freinds who travelled to Europe in past couple of years has a horror story to tell. Be alert of your surrounding, thieves dress in nice clothes in Europe. Travel safely.
