About Us
Our love affair with Latin America began in 1946 when our founder, Ray Heckmann, and a fellow Navy pilot, both living in New York, bought a U.S. Army surplus jeep for the princely sum of $50.00. They set off from New York to Galveston, Texas, boarded a freighter bound for La Guaira, Venezuela, and drove. pushed and pulled that Jeep over gravel roads, railroad tracks and washed-our mountain passes all the way to Santiago, Chile.
