Detailed Description
This tour begins at the Yonghe Lamasery which is one of the best examples of the region's Tibetan Buddhist temples. Lama Temple incorporates diverse architectural styles from the Hans, Mongolians, Manchurians and Tibetans. The impressive 60-foot Maitreya Buddha sitting in the main hall is carved from a single sandalwood tree. Then it's on to one of the highpoints of every tourist's trip to Beijing, a visit to the Zoo to see the Giant Pandas, a living Chinese treasure.
After a stop for lunch, you'll then visit the emperor's resort, the scenic Summer Palace. Used for eight centuries, the Empress Dowager Cixi had the palace renovated in the 19th century, adding the manmade lake we see today. You will have ample time to stroll through one of Beijing's favorite parks. During the day, you will also go on a shopping excursion to the White Peacock Silk Carpet Factory.
