ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Anchorage, Alaska

Arrive Anchorage, Alaska. Overnight hotel room and taxes included. Unguided day and meal expense at own cost.

Day 2 - Alaska Wildlife Center / Anchorage Museum / Mushers Ball

Pickup and greeted by Alaskan Tour Guides and head south for the afternoon. Visit the Alaska Wildlife Center, a non-profit organization that cares for Alaska’s orphaned or injured wildlife. See moose, bison, elk and others. Take a tram ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska for spectacular views. Enjoy lunch in the picturesque, ski resort town of Girdwood. Return to Anchorage to attend the evening Mushers Banquet. Enjoy casual Alaskan entertainment, dinner and a chance to meet the mushers as they draw their starting numbers. A great autograph and photo opportunity.
2nd night in Anchorage hotel. (L,D)

Day 3 - Veteran Iditarod Mushers Kennel / Mat-Su Valley

Learn more about the sport of mushing, the dog teams and lifestyle of a musher with an informative and fun presentation from a veteran Iditarod musher. Enjoy lunch and hot drinks and round out a full day of Alaska winter fu with the thrill of a short ride behind a sled dog team!
Dinner and check in to Wasilla hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Ceremonial Start of the Iditarod / Anchorage

Travel to the Ceremonial start of the Iditarod and Anchorage festivities. Start of the Iditarod. Enjoy some free time, exploring the downtown Anchorage shops. Visit the Anchorage Museum of History and Art and it’s excellent exhibits depicting the history of Alaska and it’s people. View the artwork of renowned Alaskan artists.
Enjoy dinner before returning to overnight Wasilla lodging. (B,D)

Day 5 - Official Start of the Iditarod / Mat-Su Valley

Witness the Official Start of The Last Great Race in Wasilla. Celebrate Alaskan-style with a delicious barbecue lunch of hearty Alaskan fare. This trail side experience is away from the crowded starting line and in Alaska wilderness. Cheer for the mushers and their teams as they set out on an amazing 1150 mile trek to Nome. Excellent photo opportunities and even a chance to find a souvenir dog booty. Try on a pair of snowshoes or a little introductory cross country skiing.
Dinner and return to Wasilla hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Talkeetna / Flightsee Denali

Destination - Talkeetna, a rustic town with incredible views of Denali. Time is allowed to explore this little town with big Alaskan flavor. Enjoy lunch in a local diner. Flightseeing Denali - Fly over valleys and enter the Ice Age world of the Alaska Range through the great gorge; fly deeper into the park over massive glaciers and wind-sculptured ridges for the best views of remote regions of the park. Return to Anchorage for 8:00 pm or later departures or overnight Anchorage lodging for next day departures. *Overnight lodging not included. (B,L)
