Serra da Bocaina has one of the largest bio-diversity regions of the world. The Atlantic Rainforest is excellent for birdwatching. It is located only a few hours drive from Rio de Janeiro and boasts Brazil’s largest National Park of Atlantic Rainforest.

The first stop on the route to Bocaina is Bananal, an old “coffee-town” from the 1860s – an era when the region, the Paraíba Valley, was the world’s largest coffee producer. We will stop here - after a two hour drive -, to appreciate the historical city. After a stop for coffee and a snack, we continue into the Bocaina mountain range – to 1200 m altitude. After an hour drive, we will visit The Ecological Station of the park, which is a research station. You will also visit the beautiful Sete Quedas Waterfall and take a short hike on a preserved stretch of the old “Gold Trail” - completed in 1710, through which the Portuguese colonizers used to transport gold and diamonds. This route has stories and legends of pirates and adventure. We will continue by car and stop for a home made meal. After lunch, we drive to the hotel for checking in. A typical dinner from the hotel’s traditional kitchen will be served in the evening. Time to relax and enjoy the cool evenings in the mountains.

Day 5 :

After breakfast, we will take a 40 minute light hike visiting one of the highlights of the region: the Bracuí Waterfall. After a light 40 minute hike, we will reach the top of the waterfall, which then plunges – through a sequence of falls – 1.100 meters down to meet the Atlantic Ocean. We will stop for about 40 minutes to appreciate the stunning view. There will be time and the opportunity to stop on the way and bathe in the cool waters of the Bracuí River. Lunch. After a nice meal, there will be time for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the hotel. Our guide will be at your disposal to offer explanations of the area – or if you wish, to show you some of the other very special places on the surroundings. A light dinner will be served at 8 pm.

Day 6 :

After breakfast, we will leave for the Rio Vermelho Valley, where there are areas of original preserved Atlantic Rainforest. A guide will take us to a 45-minute walk inside the forest.
