Self-drive to Cahuita, Caribbean Coast ( B )
Cahuita's main attractions are its white sandy beaches, miles of coconut groves, tranquil clear seas and coral reefs. Cahuita Point is mostly rainforest, with an abundance of coconut trees and the beach almond trees. The reef sits off Cahuita Point and fans out over 240 hectares.

Cahuita is a generally peaceful place, home to some five thousand people, situated on the Atlantic coast of Costa Rica about 60 kilometres from the Panamanian border. It’s a fascinating little town which maintains its Caribbean identity despite the influences of tourism and the foreign residents that have established themselves here.
The National Park
However intriguing Cahuita’s cultural mix, by far the greatest attraction for the average tourist is its National Park, founded in 1970. This is a reserve of modest size but it contains abundant and varied wildlife. The park contains a coral reef as well as tropical rainforest and beaches, so it offers all kinds of opportunities to spot animals, birds and marine life.
Many people enter the park simple to enjoy its beautiful white beach – at the entrance you’ll be asked only to make a voluntary contribution to the project

Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. Located in one of the richest areas for bird watching: Sun bittern, oropendola, motmot, at least four species of trogons, umbrella birds, fruits crows, jacamars, tinamous, stripe-breasted and black throated wrens are some of more than 400 species that have been recorded in the area (50% of the species of Costa Rica).

Self-drive to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge (B)
The Caño Negro Wetlands are located in the northern zone of Costa Rica, close to the small village of Los Chiles, few kilometers to Nicaragua. Caño Negro is mainly conformed by the Caño Negro Lagoon and the Rio Frio. It has an extension of 9960 Hs., and it is one of the most important biological areas of the country (4th on earth). Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge was declared “Wild Life Area of International Importance” in 1991. This Costa Rican ecological treasure is the natural habitat of more than 350 species of birds, as well as the emerald basilisk, iguanas, river turtles, caimans, jaguars, ocelots, giant anteaters, monkeys, and many others. Its vast wildlife concentration places Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge among the most important wetlands in the Americas.

Visit on a comfortable boat the channels and lagoons that compose this beautiful area. You will be able to observe the flora and fauna and the incredible beauty of the channel systems. This refuge is home of more than 350 bird species, 310 species of plants, at least 160 species of mammals such as the howler monkey, the white faced monkey and the spider monkey. There are many species of fish such as the famous Garfish, known as a living fossil.

Beautiful ride through mountains and typical small villages. Arenal volcano is the most active volcano in Costa Rica and with some luck you may be able to observe the red lava. This almost perfect cone, which soars 1,633 meters above sea level, has a crater 140 meters deep formed over an ancient caldera. Best spot to enjoy these wonders are Tabacon Hot Springs, or any of the other hot springs in the area
( not included ), a veritable thermal wonderland, where a hot volcanic stream is channeled in five pools of varying temperature.
