PERU trip - help planning
Posted May 6th, 2008 by saregama
Any suggestions for a 8-10 day trip to Peru welcome.
Want to focus on Machu Picchu but don't need to hike there.
Would rather use the time to see more of Peru.
Any reviews on Lake Titicaca, Nasca lines, Amazon, or suggestions of "don't miss" spots to visit?
Thanks in advance!

Hello there, if you will
Hello there, if you will stay in Puno (Lake Titicaca) You´ll need 2 nights at least, because a fullday tour to floating islands usually it´s done second day and The Uros and Taquile island it´s a must. They usually go at 6.30 a.m. and come back at 5.30 p.m. all by boat (obviously), you can see it´s impossible planning to travel late. Ussually too, you will arrive to Puno in the afternoon and go the day next morning (the third)
All best for you ¡¡

I posted a comment prior to my Peru trip, and I've been back for a few weeks now. If you want to cover Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, Nasca lines, and more, 8-10 days might not be enough. You will need at least 2 days in MP, most people spend time before and after MP in Cusco. I'd recommend 4 days in Cusco - must see! (I just love that town!). Nasca lines are kind of out of the way. My trip was 8 days and we asked the tour guide if we could squeeze in Nasca lines. He said we would need to take flights from Lima to another city (forgot the name) to get to Nasca lines, so it's not really a 1-day trip kinda thing. So:
2 days in MP
4 days in Cusco
2 days for Nasca lines
there are 8 days already
I'd still suggest spending a day in Lima even though most people say 1 day is enough, but since you're there, might as well visit the country's capital.
And then you're only left with 1 day in Lake Titicaca, which is not enough (I didn't go there personally, really wish I had planned for that....) based on the travelers I met in Peru.
Hope this helps. :)
Hi, my friend and I are
Hi, my friend and I are going to Lima and Cusco this June, and we found very helpful tour company on Zicasso. :) This tour company offered the best price we could find for domestic flight between Lima/Cusco, hotel, homestay, and tours to Machu Picchu. We are taking the train to Machu Picchu instead of doing the Inca trail hike, so you might consider the train option. Good luck with your trip.
Aside from the places you
Aside from the places you mentioned above, which are must-see as well, another 2 places I could think of to see are Lima and Cusco. Lima has sections for the city life, areas for tranquility, and there is plenty of history within the city. Cusco is called the City of the Sun and has some of the most beautiful Cathedrals and Churches in the world.
