For long flights with a baby, is it better to buy 2 seats in business class, or 3 seats in economy?

I would go for 3 seats in Economy also. I found it out the hard way when traveling with my 18 month old. Our economy tickets got upgraded to business and the distance between my seat and my husband's made it a pain to pass the baby back and forth. Even just 2 seats in economy would have meant more cozy family time.

Your budget may be the

Your budget may be the primary decision maker here, with business classes seats running perhaps double to triple three economy seats. Having done both, I prefer the chance to lie flat with my infant in business which the economy seats do not allow.

I guess it would depend on your budget, but I would definitely go for 3 seats in economy. Trust me, you'll want the extra room for your baby, plus you don't have to worry about bothering the person sitting next to you.

Depending on the age of your child, requesting bulkhead seats may be a good option. Good luck with your travels!

For infants who are crawling

For infants who are crawling or walking, the best thing you can do is to give them some room to wiggle around. Hence, it is much preferable to have 3 seats in economy.

I also prefer to travel without a car seat (or a CARES harness). This is allowed by the airlines - it is sufficient to either hold the infant on your lap for take off and landing OR to restrain them with the normal seatbelt.
