Ritual
Its an ancient ritual where the Sun is worshipped. The women offer a tray of flowers, fruits and sweets while the men drape themselves with a cloth and pray. The holy waters of river Ganges and its banks come alive with devotees in colourful attires on this day of summer and the ritual is called Chaiti Chhat. It was shot in Calcutta.
Dawn at Varanasi
It was shot on a cold December dawn at Varanasi, India. The young woman lights a lamp on the bank of the holy river Ganges and offers the diya(lighted lamp) and flowers to the river. Its an ancient ritual still practised by women of India.
Faraway Monastery
It was shot in Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh, India on a late Autumn afternoon. The cluster of poplar trees were resplendent in their fall colours and I waited for a shaft of sunlight to illuminate the distant monastery on the hills.
