Top Destinations for Unforgettable Journeys: October to December
Now is the perfect time to plan for trips from October to December. As autumn unfolds in the northern hemisphere, spring takes hold in the southern hemisphere. One of the keys to successful complex trip planning is choosing the right time to go to certain places.
From exotic diving in Papua, New Guinea to a river excursion down The Amazon in Brazil, it’s hard to think of just three unforgettable journeys and to choose just 3 destinations per month. Here are mine though.
What would you choose?
October:
- Papua, New Guinea, Australasia for sailing between tiny islands before diving in beautiful waters or visiting local villages.
- Wahiba Desert, Oman, Middle East to explore the open desert by 4WD and enjoy the sparkling night diamonds in the sky.
- Khyber Pass, Pakistan, Asia to take a memorable steam train ride that extends to the Afghan border.
Papua
November:
- Nariz del Diablo, Ecuador, Central America to descend the steep “Devil’s Nose” path from a mountain to a rainforest aboard a train on the world’s toughest railway to build.
- Draa Valley, Morocco, Africa to visit mud-made kasbahs, date groves, and oases in the desert by the Sahara.
- Sicily, Italy, Europe to explore this island’s back roads, idyllic rocky terrain, and hearty seafood.
Draa Valley
December:
- Mekong River, Laos, Asia offers a water passage that meanders past colonial architecture, vibrant markets, jungles, mountains, and carved wooden temples.
- The Amazon, Brazil, South America offers a wild retreat through the world’s largest tropical rainforest and river basin.
- The Swiss Alps, Switzerland, Europe where you can take the Glacier Express, a train, with its glass ceiling that winds from Zermatt to St. Moritz, beneath the Matterhorn, and offers stunning vistas on clear days.

Thanks for the input! You're absolutely right that October through December is a great time seasonally to visit certain countries in Asia/Southeast Asia and experience less volatile weather changes. Your Myanmar trip sounds like one filled with cultural splendor, rich history and heritage, and a touch of warm native hospitality.
I'd recommend Myanmar, known
I'd recommend Myanmar, known as Burma under former British rule. It's the comfortable time of year to visit and isn't too humid. Interestingly, older generations speak English, whereas younger ones don't necessarily.
Accommodations are modest by international standards, but it's inexpensive. You can reach Myanmar through Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and probably Vietnam, while tying a week-long trip with a visit to another nearby country.
Traveling up the pristine Mekong River to visit friendly locals villages was memorable for me. The food represents a cross-section of Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. This un-commercialized country offers authenticity and charm that you don't find everywhere you go.
