Next day, head north to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and trek to the top of the Grundarfjordur and Helgafell mountains for a view of prehistoric and ancient Icelandic history.

Visit the town of Olafsvik and cruise along the fjords in search of the vibrant whale pods in travel by in the summer. Move deeper into the traditions of the region with a visit to a local farm/museum that produces a traditional fermented shark dish; take the opportunity to taste the dish alongside a shot of homemade schnapps. Get close to the foothills of Snaefellsjokull Glacier on a horseback-riding excursion for an open panorama of the landscape that surrounds you.

Next day, make your way to the town of Reykholt to tour the Saga Museum to offer insight into the rich history of the island.
