What are your overall comments on the trip and travel company?

Peerless. It was the best organized trip we've ever taken.

And, by the way--normally we're do-it-yourself people. We went to Morocco completely cold and had a great time there. Of course one pays more to arrange things through an agency. But I'm really glad we did, because we learned a ton about the country. In China, one avoids guides because they never know anything interesting about the sites. But in Turkey, we consistently had guides who not only knew but cared about Greek history, Roman history, the Ottomans, the Hittites, et al and who could answer all our questions. I was especially grateful for Oshan in Istanbul and Ozkan in Cappadocia. You know well how professional Ozkan is. Oshan was a mine of information on church history, Istanbul history, the sultans, architecture, and everything else we asked about. My son is even interested now in studying Turkish. We came away with such a deeper understanding, and I think a future appreciation for Turkey, much more than just a vacation.

What are your overall comments on the trip and travel company?

Antonio was helpful in suggesting minimum nights necessary in Istanbul and was also helpful at the last minute in finding us a new hotel in our preferred area on the way back. In fact we structured our visit to Turkey differently given his suggestions. Given our time constraints in planning, he was instrumental in helping us finalise our trip plans.

He also was helpful in processing two person’s credit cards, which led to some confusion about what constituted the full bill charged on each credit card. No problems, but he could have itemised each charge that he did, which would have been more helpful in figuring out who owed who money between travel partners. In addition, it was challenging to coordinate plans originally due to time difference.

The fact that we were not always on the internet did not help either, b/c we were not able to check his posting online, etc.

While it was helpful to have the vouchers done in advance, and transportation settled ahead of time was very very helpful, I do not believe he took the spirit of our requests for accommodation to heart. We stayed in affordable lodging, but would have preferred to rent apartments, or stay in culturally more popular areas, not the tourist areas. We also asked for gyms or pools, and as a result of not having that at our own hotels, we frequented other hotels at day rates.
