Happy Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Tibetan New Year!

Originating from China, the Lunar New Year is the biggest celebration in many parts of Asia. I reckon there’re probably a couple of billion people celebrating right now! As in Chinese tradition, we wish everyone peace and happiness in this Year of the Rabbit. This year, our wishes particularly go out to another part of the world, to the people of Egypt as we send our good thoughts and wishes for a peaceful outcome in their historic moment of transition.

To celebrate the fascinating history of China during this New Year, I thought I’d highlight some unique travel experiences at the iconic Great Wall of China. Construction of it began in the 5th century BC (now that’s old!) and over a period of 1500 years, the Chinese built an awesome fortification spanning over 5000 kilometers! It’s one of the world’s most impressive engineering achievements and I remember being in total awe when I first saw it, extending as far as my eyes could see.

If you too are fascinated by this part of Chinese history, did you know that you can experience the Great Wall intimately, unlike most tourists in China? Through our partners, for example, you can spend the night inside the Wall just like what the ancient guards did! And here’s a recommended experience: Take this guided Great Wall trekking trip through six different sections of the Wall, viewing spectacular scenery and learning the history China that corresponds to 1500 years of construction! Many of the sites are way out of normal tourist routes and include UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Simatai section of the Wall.

Zicasso’s partners for China travel can help you get the most out of a trip there, including authentic, unique experiences and special access beyond what’s available to others. As China takes the world stage as an economic super-power, we hope many of you will get to travel there to experience some of its spectacular scenery, get to know its unique culture, and learn its history. Happy travels!
