Wildebeests

Designated the 8th Natural Wonder of the World, Ngorongoro Crater is renown for its lush vegetation and extensive wildlife that dwells within this massive, ancient volcano’s rim. Nature within this caldera, or collapsed volcano, is so pristine and abundant that it is affectionately called Africa’s Eden. From the Crater highlands, you will behold some of the most stunning scenery on the planet.

A luxury safari to Ngorongoro Crater will put you right in the midst of great herds of wildebeest and zebras that cautiously pass by prides of attentive lions. Catch glimpses through the early morning mist of endangered black rhinos as they slip back into the safety of thick forests after dining on thick grasses. Ngorongoro Crater is an excellent destination to view the Big Five (lion, rhino, buffalo, leopard and elephant).

Ngorongoro Crater sits within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area which covers 8300 square kilometers of protected expanses consisting of forests, bush land and highland plains. Scattered throughout the Conservation Area are various indigenous tribes, such as the well known Maasai, which still graze their herds of goats and cattle alongside the abundant wildlife as they’ve done for centuries.

Besides Ngorongoro Crater, also visit the nearby Embagai Crater which is much smaller, but offers sightings of leopards, buffalo, hyenas, ostriches and other bird and animal species. Journey to the alkaline Lakes of Ndutu and Masek which are surrounded by jutting volcano peaks and home to rich wildlife populations.

Travel to the beautiful Olduvai Gorge which is an archaeological site where various fossils and some of the oldest stone tools have been discovered. Hominoid footprints dating back over 3.7 million years have been found as well, making this area one of the oldest habitational sites in the world. Take walking tours through the small museum housing some of the area finds.
