Rocky Shores

Rocky Shores
Located in the heart of the Garden Route on the Southern Cape, Tsitsikamma is a spectacular area of rocky shores, towering cliffs, lush forests and gorgeous flowers decorating the coastline along the Indian Ocean. This extraordinary park is one of largest Marine Protected Areas in the world, preserving eleven percent of South Africa’s rugged shoreline.
Visit cultural heritage sites such as past small fishing settlements, forestry industry remnants, grave sites and Khoisan, which contains rock art, shell tools and caves used by the ancient people who originally occupied this vast wilderness.
Stroll along the shoreline and watch for schools of dolphins and porpoises playing in the ocean waves, the rare African Black Oystercatcher bird, several of which nest along the park’s rocky cliffs and the Cape Clawless Otter which hunts crabs along the coast and inland rivers.
Walk along breathtaking nature trails alone, or via guided tours to learn more about the area’s history, flora and fauna. Participate in a multitude of water activities like swimming, SCUBA, diving, snorkeling, canoeing and sailing, both in the ocean and in the rivers feeding into it.
Two rest camps are located in the park which provides accommodations, services, shopping and a variety of activities; Storms River Mouth Restcamp and Nature’s Valley Restcamp. Both camps offer accommodations in Forest Huts, Forest Cabins, Chalets, Oceanettes, Cottages, Family Cottages and Honeymoon Cottages.
