Lion Sands is located in some of the finest territory which makes up the beautiful Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Being a part of Kruger National Park, the reserve offers a high level of animal population to flow back and forth, giving big game viewers ample opportunities to see the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and lion) as well as other exotic beasts of Africa.

Family owned and operated for almost 80 years, Lion Sands remains in its pristine wild condition due to the attentive and tender care of its owners. Lion Sands has a full-time ecologist on hand to monitor the reserve for any adverse effects of humanization in order to keep disturbance to a minimum. Ivory Lodge

Distinguished as the third Best Hotel in the World in 2006 by Tatler Magazine, Lions Sands continues to offer privileged guests luxury accommodations amidst simple, contemporary elegance. River Lodge

Accentuating the spirit of African wilderness and the beauty of nature, River Lodge provides a wonderful feeling of being at home within the bush. Positioned on the banks of the Sabi River, the lodge sits beneath the shade and protection of ancient trees and offers incredible views of the surrounding plant life, birdlife and wildlife that fill the area.

Enjoy relaxing amenities such as a bar with fireplace, lounge, outdoor lounge and viewing deck for watching game, bird blind for watching the various species of birdlife, River Island Deck built over the river, both an indoor and outdoor (Boma) dining area, 2 swimming pools which are heated during cooler months, luxury spa and gym.

Raised walkways lead from all areas back to each of the 18 luxury suites which are air-conditioned. Suites are elegantly decorated and consist of a bedroom with king size bed ceiling fan, bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower and private viewing deck.

1933 Lodge

Named after the founding date of the Lion Sands Private Reserve, this luxury safari lodge was built by the grandsons of the founder, Guy Aubrey Chalkley. This newest addition to the reserve provides a deeply warm and personal atmosphere that is both expected and revered of a world class lodge.

The free flowing design of 1933 Lodge gives one an experience of living in complete harmony with the gorgeous surroundings. From the polished timber embellishments and thatched roofs to the catchy wood and plaster flooring, the lodge emanates an earthy elegance captured in a soft, contemporary embrace.

The lounge exudes relaxation through the large fireplace encircled by comfy, oversized chairs, the dining room provides a family air with its open, professional kitchen, the expansive observation deck gives incredible viewing pleasure via its wrap-around design and the swimming pool provides cool relief from Africa’s hot climate. A playroom is also provided for guests with children.

Four spacious and incredibly luxurious suites sit poised on the banks of Sabi River where intimate and private views of the wildlife drawn by the refreshing waters. They contain elegant his and her bathrooms with outdoor showers, a master bedroom and a bedroom for children which sleeps up to eight.
