Although not considered a safari lodge, Giraffe Manor is a wonderfully unique experience for numerous reasons. The manor is located just 20 kilometers from Nairobi’s center which can easily be visited on a day trip while providing a pleasant stay in country surroundings. An excursion into Nairobi can take you to the Kenyan National Museum, the vibrantly colorful Maasai Market and more.

The property’s 1930’s charm adds to its romantic ambiance. Antique furnishings and interesting artwork fill the interior and the six bedrooms which contain spacious four poster beds. Families can request to stay in the Karen Blixen suite which has courtyard access directly into the giraffe sanctuary.
Giraffe Manor gives its guests a rich, hands-on experience with the resident Rothschild Giraffes which wander around the grounds, visit the dining area and even pop their heads into your bedroom window. Besides the giraffes, a generous population of warthogs, dik diks, bushbuck and other African wildlife and birdlife can be seen foraging throughout the property.

While enjoying your luxury stay at Giraffe Manor, you’ll also want to visit several other onsite or nearby attractions. The Karen Blixen Museum rests in a gorgeous garden with the Ngong Hills as its backdrop. Here you will learn more of the Danish author who penned the famous book, "Out Of Africa," and made the Manor her home from 1917 to 1931.

Walk through the amazing 100 acre Giraffe Center which was established as a breeding facility for the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and preserves natural habitat for them as well as other exotic birds and animals. Another enjoyable venture is into the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage where you can see orphaned baby elephants and rhinos being reared for release back into the wild. Watch as they’re fed, bathed and playfully frolic and kick about soccer balls.

If you want to witness some of the beasts of Africa, Nairobi National Park is located near Giraffe Manor and can provide you with opportunities to witness lions, rhinos, hippos and other wildlife with the city of Nairobi as a stunning backdrop of contrast. If designer shopping interests you, take a short trip to the nearby Penny Winter and Anna Trezbinski studios.

The Bomas of Kenya also makes for an interesting excursion from the Manor where you can experience the culture of various tribal groups as they make crafts, dance and demonstrate other functions of traditional life amidst a village atmosphere.
