Hong Kong, a thriving Chinese harbor city, boasts of being Asia’s World City. Thanks to its diverse cultural influences and being a gateway to all parts of the world, Hong Kong is an ideal place to embark on China vacations. The city’s name in Cantonese means fragrant harbor and you will be overcome by its modernization coupled with its unique old-time charm and vibrant nightlife.

However, Hong Kong is more than a bustling metropolis. It is also surrounded by stunning natural scenery which includes beautiful parks, misty mountain backgrounds, water swept coastline, sandy beaches and uninhabited islands, all set in a subtropical climate. This is the playground of some the worlds most elite and you can easily get caught up in its inviting luxury and enthusiastic entertainment.

Walk down Hollywood Road (Cat Street) and browse through antique stores, local shops, and the curio market where you can pick up wonderfully unique gifts. Take walking tours through the Man Mo Temple which sits nearby and enjoy its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful architecture and wafting incense.

Shoppers will also want to head to the Western Market full of places to buy crafts, fabrics and various styles of art. Stanley Market is another prized destination where you can find great bargains as well as enjoy its seaside environment and relaxed atmosphere.

Mill around the Wan Chai waterfront and partake of events housed in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, or visit the Golden Bauhinia Square and catch the flag raising ceremony which celebrates the return of Hong Kong to the People’s Republic of China from British control.

Stroll along the popular resort beach of Repulse Bay and bask in the warmth of the early morning sun. Admire the eye-catching Chinese architecture of the lifeguard house with its coiled dragons and the statues of Tin Hau and Kwun Yum which guard the garden strewn pathway to the beach.

Catch glimpses of underwater life at the Ocean Park Aqua City via a visitation to the Grand Aquarium which contains more than 400 species of sea creatures. Afterwards, explore the nearby Lagoon to enjoy the beauty of the dancing fountains and cool off in their refreshing mist. The fountains become an amazing water screen show after dark, with a 360-degree viewing of fighting dragons.

Take an excursion to The Peak on the outskirts of Hong Kong. This extremely popular location provides onlookers with stunning views of the city’s amazing skyline, calming hillsides and picturesque Victoria Harbor. Even the trip on the Peak Tram to and from is an unforgettable experience.

Those traveling with children will want to include a trip to Madame Tussauds wax museum and delight in its interactive experience and audio visual effects. Hong Kong Disneyland is another favorite amongst both young and old alike. Horse racing can be found at the Happy Valley Racecourse with the Hong Kong Racing Museum located nearby.

When the sun goes down, head to Aberdeen harbor and watch the magical twinkling lights from the surrounding hillsides and the barrage of fishing junks on the water. While in Aberdeen, be sure to stop by the Jumbo Kingdom. This incredible floating restaurant is designed as an extravagant Chinese palace and specializes in mouthwatering seafood cuisine.

Then strike out for Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo, Hong Kong’s trendy nightlife center. Here you can mull around with crowds of tourists and rub elbows with Hong Kong’s affluent.
